Sakshama Kalajnjali – Empowering Persons with Disabilities through Artistic Skill Development, Public Performance and Self-Reliance

In tune with Sakshama’s vision to empower disabled people, our Thiruvananthapuram unit has formed a music troupe named Sakshama Kalanjali. As of now there are 16 young talented differently abled youths residing in Thiruvananthapuram are performing as part of this team.

The troupe is in a nascent stage right now. It requires considerable hand holding and sponsorships to emerge as a professional band. This initiative focuses on building self-confidence, dignity, social inclusion and self-reliance through structured artistic training and public performances.

Vision and Mission

Vision

To create an inclusive society where persons with disabilities are recognised for their talents, abilities and contributions.

Mission

To identify, nurture and promote the artistic abilities of persons with disabilities, provide platforms for public performance, and thereby enable confidence, independence and sustainable livelihood opportunities.

Need Assessment / Background

Many persons with disabilities possess strong artistic skills such as singing, music, dance and devotional arts. However, due to lack of professional training, limited exposure and performance platforms, and financial constraints, their talents often remain unrecognised. This affects their self-esteem and limits opportunities for self-reliance. Sakshama Kalajnjali addresses this gap by providing continuous training and public exposure, enabling participants to integrate into the cultural mainstream with confidence.

Objectives of the Project

  • To nurture and enhance the artistic skills of persons with disabilities

  • To provide professional training in music, bhajans, dance and instrumental fusion

  • To create platforms for public performances and cultural exposure

  • To build self-confidence, social recognition and dignity

  • To promote self-reliance through art-based opportunities

Project Description

Under this project, Sakshama Kalajnjali will implement structured and continuous training programs including:

  • Vocal Music Training (Solo & Group Songs)

  • Bhajan and Devotional Music Training

  • Dance Training

  • Instrumental Fusion Training

  • Regular sessions conducted by experienced trainers

  • Public performances at cultural events, community programmes and CSR platforms.

The project strengthens existing teams and expands opportunities for consistent performance and recognition.
